My War Stories

1941 Glyde was a reservist and called to duty at the age of 22. Glyde was in the corps of military police of the Army. Glyde was the company commander doing police work for the Army at the beginning of the war. Glyde’s unit was in the Blitz in England and later he went into Paris, France. During the Blitz a German’s bomb partially hit Glyde’s car and cut his arm but that was the closet call Glyde ever had. Glyde had several near misses due to luck as he called it.
8/6/1945 Glyde was on a liberty ship going through the Panama Canal en route to England when the bomb was dropped. Glyde said there was 20,000 men in his convoy and not one of them did not approve of the atomic bomb.
1951 Glyde was called for Korean Service but he was enrolled in Veterinarian School at the Ohio State University so he was waved and by the time he graduated the war was over.
