My War Stories
1956 Enlisted into Air Force August 19, 1956. Basic at Lockland for one month, Amarillo for five months then to Lorrng Air Force base Limestone, Maine. Ground Crew for B-52 however was trained on B-47. Only got to fly in B-52 one time for a check ride. He serviced, refueled and moved the aircraft. Under General LeMay in charge of SAC. One time watched a $10 million B-52 burn to ground as an engine caught on fire. Carried two H Bombs on the planes all the time, had close call with fuel leak one time. Had an empty M1 carbine to guard the atomic bombs and the plane in those days.
